Although there is no definite cure for eczema there are many treatments that can be used to keep it as bay. One of the more common remedies is that used for Nummular eczema, which is perhaps the most common type of eczema.

Oil or fat based emollients are used as a preventative form of treatment against nummular eczema. By applying an emollient it keeps the skin supple and prevents it from drying out. Avoiding moisture loss is an important measure in preventing eczema from flaring up. Some emollients are known to have anti inflammatory or anti itching properties about them too. Choosing the right ointment is equally important too as it is crucial that you choice on that has the right balance of oil and water to reflect the type of environment you live in.

Steroid creams are also used in the treatment of nummular eczema and are re known for their calming properties. Literally they suppress the body’s inflammatory response and the most commonly used is that of hydrocortisone. Most can be bought over the counter at a pharmacy although stronger dosages must be prescribed by a Dr. Prol9nged use can however have adverse affects in the skin making it thinner and weaker in appearance.

Antibiotics are generally used where infection takes place. Prolonged use is not recommended and can lead to antibiotic-resistant bacteria. As a general guide antibiotics are alongside a strong hydrocortisone cream and can only be obtained via prescription.
