Your Questions About Eczema

Thomas asks…

Can anyone help tell me what it is?

For about a year now i’ve had a patch of what looked like over-sized freckles at the top of my chest. It only itches very occasionally and i was wondering if it was some sort of eczema….? The weird thing is though when i went on to Italy (it was very hot), they completely dissapeared but started appearing again after only a day of being back in the (cold!) UK. They came back merged together so now i have a patch of orange with a few rogue freckle type things around it.

Anyone got any idea what it might be? Just so i know whether to be worried or not,,,

thanks loads

Lilly xx

The best one to determine what that is is the dermatologist. I would not be worried but by the sound of it and how this reacts to the cold I’d say it can be a condition known as psoriasis. Google that to see what it is . NOT life threatening but can be annoying if left as is and untreated. I would not leave it as is but don’t need to be worried about it. IF you get the diagnosis by a dr. That is what it is email me, I can help you to get the best way to confront and work with it. I know about this firsthand.

Donna asks…

thinking of buying a budgie?

In my local market (in the UK) they have budgies that are £20 each, if you buy one you get cage etc and bird seed for 2 months for free with it, buy 2 and you get a massive cage made for 5 birds as well. My question is are they noisy? hard to look after?
My bf said that we could if it was quiet enough, or if he could escape it. I love birds and used to ‘baby sit’ my friends. for 3 hours a day when doing so i would keep her cats out of one room (leaving them 10 others to run about in) and let it fly about, It would always come perch on my shoulder and tweet to me and i fell in love with it (even though i’d end up with asthma attacks and my eczema would come out cos of it). When i get it i’ll have 4 cats and only have 3 rooms they could run around if i let it out to fly. Would the cats leave it alone if they were in the same room together? or would it be better me waiting to get a bird for when it can have a room to itself? That way the cats don’t get upset and the bird wont and i wont feel guilty for it getting eaten.
Obviously if i had the room to give it a single room i would have more than the 1 budgie. i actually want to get 3 or 4 but don’t have the room right now. Also my cats set off my eczema and asthma and i still have them and have had them all my life, a tight chest and itching isn’t too much to put up with when you get so much love back!

admin answers:

I wouldn’t leave the birds unattended with the cats. Close the door to the room they are in or put the cats in their own room when you won’t be near the cage. Many people have birds and cats. Just remember that it is natural for your cats to want the birds. If you plan to handle your bird a lot, a single bird is good. It will bond to you. If you do this, keep the wings clipped so that the bird doesn’t fly away or get injured flying about the room. Otherwise, get two. They are flock animals and enjoy company. They will entertain each other. If you don’t want to deal with babies, you can have two of the same sex. As for the allergies, try allergy shots like my friend does. She has birds, dogs and a horse and is allergic to all of them. She would NEVER give them up though.

Oof sis :S well ask ur doc because what we might say you should do could harm you even more

But I heard warm water with vinegar is good – don’t expect it to taste nice ! And also because vinegar is acidic it will burn the “cuts” in your throat and it will sting but it will heal them

try putting vaseline on your skin my mom had eczema, and all the creams didn’t work for her but vaseline did – I cant guarantee it though

James asks…

Ramadan: Does age matter when someone commits suicide in Islam?

It’s from News Of The World page 37 (I’m not writing the whole article, this is just the basic outline):

It’s about the 13 year old girl Sian Jones who’s hanging body was found on the front door by her mother and sister.

For months before her death she had suffered hate messages and emails. Also she was being bullied at school because of her eczema. She blocked the main bully on a social networking site, but the bully got other girl’s passwords and sent messages that way. When the main bully heard of her death she said that she was glad that Sian was dead.

At an inquest it was ruled that the bullying hadn’t lead to her death. A coroner recorded a verdict of accidental death saying that Sian had been experimenting with asphyxiation,

I don’t know about anyone else but I’m disgusted by this verdict and by the attitude of her bullies. If being bullied so much that she’d even think about hanging herself isn’t bad enough, the coroner said she’d been experimenting with asphyxiation and it was nothing to do with bullying. This coroner shouldn’t be alliwed to work again. And even though I don’t know any of the people involved my heart goes out to Sian’s family. If I was there and had heard the bully say I’m glad she’s dead I would have struggled to not hit her.

Why are bullies allowed to get away with this? There’s plenty of stories every year that kids have killed themselves because of bullies but still nothing has been done.

I mean she is 13 years old.. :S
Or does it not matter? She’s going to hellfire right away?

Sister, committing suicide is a grave sin but not an unforgivable sin like shirk. Also considering the circumstances and the immaturity of the young girl (oh I was really sad in reading the story :'( ) we cannot really say who will enter Jannah or Jahannam. It all depends upon Allah’s will and Mercy. He(swt) could forgive her 🙂

At the same believers who do good deeds but commit a sin constantly n fail to seek forgiveness could be punished by hell fire. We really don’t know. All we could do is believe, do righteous deeds and ask Allah’s help, begging for His Mercy, insha’Allah 🙂

Daniel asks…

why are so many people so happy to cover their bodies in……..?

Chemicals?
Antiperspirants
Soaps
Perfumes
Make up
Moisturisers
The lists go on.

most believe all the made up words they make up eg, pentopeptides, it doesn’t really mean anything, they just make us think it means something that is good for us.

I I knew for years that these words were a marketing scam, making claims about how we need things like pentopeptides ( not sure of the spelling) when really it is just a word used to describe a mixture of chemicals, nothing we have ever really needed before they started telling us.

I used a lot of products with some very damaging chemicals in, some products in the UK have ingredients that have been banned in Denmark, surely thats a but of a red flag right there?

I recently developed a type of eczema that has been brought on by almost every “normal” soaps, shower gels, moisturizers etc, even though I have gone 24 years using these products without any problem.
Once I looked into it a bit more I wondered why it hadn’t happened sooner, the ammount of chemicals in these products are astounding and most I have never heard if, even the products that have names to suggest they are more natural have a long list of ingredients.
The use of the word fragranceparfum in a product could be a mixture if up to 4000 chemicals, in one.

I have started using natural products and my skin is fine, I can still keep myself clean and smelling good without putting harmful chemicals on my skin that will get absorbed into my skin.

So, why are we all so happy covering our bodies in these damaging chemicals that get absorbed into the skin?

PS. I think the chemical that was banned in Denmark (and possibably other parts of the world) was parabenz (again not Sure the spelling) look at your products and you will find it in most products, they change the name in a lot, as they can when they mix ingredients so you may find it in words like benzophenone, benzyl, paraben, propylparaben, also menthyl, propyl, butyl and ethyl are all the same……..so basically anything with Para or Benz in it is a vereation of that chemical, it is basically a preservative, but it can be linked to breast cancer as it can mimic estrogen and also has been linked to causing slow development in fetus.
Foxy, so you would rather develop cancer, harm an unborn child and have these chemicals flowing around your blood stream than have a bit of sense and find alternative products that are less harmful and still do the same jobs.

Im guessing you also mean antiperspirants, as they are what stops sweating (another un-natural thing, we sweat for a reason)
deodrants are better as they still allow the importance if sweat without the smell.

It is easy to find natural products to do the same,if not better jobs than the chemical filed alternative.
Aylr showing how little you know…..no people haven’t died from shower gel, but people have developed cancer from the chemicals (cancer causes deaths), people have given birth to underdeveloped and unhealthy children due to the chemicals. (Parabenz)

But it seems people weigh up the pros and cons and find that its wort the risk as long as you smell right.
And like I said before you can still smell just as fresh with the natural products on offer.

Im not on a high horse about it, im curious to why, when given a choice people choose to highten the risks.
I don’t use all organic products and I don’t spend anymore than anyone else does, if anything I spend less because I don’t use the big named brands that cost more.
I can’t afford to spend loads of money, so infact I search fir cheaper products, but instead check the ingredients.
I have never used things like sunbeds or anything like that and no i don’t have a microwave, but that’s mire to do with the fact i don’t need one.
There are lots of cancer causing things in the world and i do believe a lot if it is going Ott on making people panic.
But i believe that there are things that can be changed in lives, not just because if cancer, but purly because i don’t want my body covered in man made chemicals, that’s far more dirty than sweat. Its not necessary.

And again repeating myself, just because there are people who don’t use the chemical full products, does not mean they are dirt

Because they aren’t informed, don’t care to look into researching the product labels and think the cosmetic corporations are on our side… Reality bites doesn’t it?

Question about baby sunburn? Please read carefully before responding?

I took my 5 month old daughter out for a 45 min – 1 h walk today. I used the Ergo Baby carrier, where she is placed next to my chest, like in this picture, only I carried her on the front. However I used the embedded hood, which is not specifically UV protecting, just thick cotton:

http://www.ergobabycarrier.com/gallery/sleeping-hood.

I mostly walked through the shadow, however sometimes the sun rays reached us and they touched baby’s skin through the sides of the hood. Whenever I noticed that happening I placed a muslin square over the hood. I kept her hands in my hands and her legs and feet were covered anyway. So I took as much care as I could.

As we got home, she had red cheeks, I thought maybe it was a bit hot (we live in Lonon, UK it’s not excessively hot however it was like summer day today). Her temperature was ok. However her cheeks stayed red until even now after 12 hours. Her nose, or forehead are fair, completely unaffected, however the cheeks are red and different from the times when she has eczema or an irritation rash.

I was wondering whether she has sunburn. I would be so shocked b/c she was covered, I mostly walked in the shadow and covered her on the top of the hood with the muslin square or my hands when that wasn’t enough.

For whoever is interested in this topic, I found this site very useful:

http://www.skincancer.org/treating-sunburn-in-children.html
I forgot to mention I cannot use sun screen as my daughter has infant’s eczema and gets a very severe reaction from it everytime, no matter whether it is baby proof, organic etc.
Her cheeks are warm to the touch even now. Not hot though, her temperature is ok.
I don’t think it was the wind either, there was no wind out there today.

admin answers:

If it’s just her cheeks then she was just too warm being so close to you, or she just has rosy cheeks now – could even be a simple virus. Sure it wasn’t UV cloth, but thick cloth is all you need to keep the sun off of her, more then that you would see color on other parts of her skin especially the tops of her ears and nose.
