admin answers:

I used to breakout in acne due to oily skin myself. Genetic, Stress and Bacteria can affect hormones and can theoretically promote acne. Here are some home remedies that can help but do not mix them together.
You want to make sure you exfoliate your face every other day. Before putting any application on face for acne. Rinse with cool water then pad dry.

1) Tea Tree Oil- An essential oil is diluted and applied topically to acne lesions.
2) Lemon oil or juice – Applied lemon juice or apple cider vinegar to face or you can drink it through using it in water a few drops a day. You can leave overnight don’t expose yourself to sunlight. Will help with both acne, and scars as well.
3) Mandarin oil
4) Cedar wood – good for eczema, psoriasis
5) Lavender
6) Apple cider vinegar
7) Bamboo extract or Sarna lotion – good for rosacea, psoriasis, eczema
8) Bio Oil or BB cream for dark spots or scars
9) Mederma good for stretch marks and scars
10) Toothpaste is very effective for acne leave on face for about 20 to 30 minutes then wash. Leave on to long will leave a scar.
11) Zinc really works on acne
12) 2% Erythromycin
13) Benzoin Peroxide
14) Hydrogen Peroxide 3% – It can help to dry out acne by killing bacteria on the skin. Soak a cotton ball in hydrogen peroxide and apply it either to the acne breakouts on your face. You also may opt to apply hydrogen peroxide to your entire face to help prevent future breakouts. Allow the hydrogen peroxide to do its job — wait until the bubbling stops in approximately a minute or two. Rinse your face with water. Apply an oil-free moisturizer to prevent skin from drying out.
15) Vitamin B3- also known as niacin. It promotes healthy skin, can be utilized as an acne treatment.
16) Retinoid- increase collagen production and plump fine lines, making it a good choice if you’re dealing with acne and wrinkles.
17) Sulfur- dries up pimples and keeps sebum production in check, helping to prevent future blemishes. Sulfur has a distinct smell think rotten eggs.
18) Coconut oil good for acne and scars.
19) Turmeric powder is also good for acne.
20) Neutrogena products
21) Brown Listerine also sucks the life of your acne wash after about 15 minutes.
22) Witch Hazel & Rubbing Alcohol both are good for acne
23) Aloe Vera either from the plant itself or gel apply on the infected area.
24) Neem oil- good for acne, psoriasis, eczema, skin ulcers (taken either orally or externally)

This is something I use every day and I got rid of my cystic acne and my eczema. I really recommend this. Neem oil: It is powerful antiviral and antibacterial properties, beneficial to those who suffer from various skin conditions like acne, psoriasis, eczema, skin ulcers, helps one treat hair related problems like dandruff and itchy scalp. Dental care products like toothpaste, mouth washes and rinses all use the neem oil’s antiseptic properties to keep teeth health and gums free of infection. Other benefits also include its use in household items like mosquito repellents, disinfectants and personal hygiene products. If you like you can purchase at http://www.amazon.com/ref=ap_frn_logo or in health food stores. It is the same price as some of the acne medications, either prescribe or over-the-counter.

James asks…

Is Protopic good and safe to use for treatment of vitiligo?

My dermatologist recomend me to use protopic for my vitiligo, but honestly I am kind of scary to use it because of risk of skin cancer….so any help?

admin answers:

Hi,

I am 32 and have had eczema since childhood. I recently found out about protopic on the net and asked my doc for it about a year ago. I had to stop using steriods as they were recking my skin. I have found protopic worked amazingly well to begin with and am currently using it again at the mo. My tube size is 60g and I still have about half left. It doesn’t seem to be working quite so well now as it did in the beginning or else my eczema is in a particularly bad flare up.

I am sorry that I don’t know anything about vitiligo, but protopic supresses the immune system and that is how it prevents eczema breakouts. Like anything else it isn’t a magic cure but faced with this cream or nothing I chose this as my eczema is wide spread on my hands and makes life unbearable. I am still always on the lookout for other more gentle options though and would encourage anyone else to do the same.

Just make sure you use a spf on the body part you apply it to before going out in the sun. It’s winter in the uk so i’m wearing gloves anyway. But in the summer I wear white thin cotton gloves and put sun cream on the backs of my hands as well.

One thing I will just mention in can make my hands feel very hot and burny which I get with my eczema anyway, but this might be a new sensation for you so might want to have a cold bag of peas handy

Linda asks…

How do I get rid of my eczema FAST?!?!?

I have had eczema since I was born and it has been a real pain in my ass (not literally). It doesn’t itch as much as it did when I was little but I has expanded all over my body since then. I have it on my knees, arms, a little on my chest, under my lip, my nose and surrounding it, my neck, shoulders and a small random patch on my back. I don’t have any redness anymore, its dry and a little itchy. I start my freshman year in high school in about a month and I want to get rid of it before then.
It would really help if you can give me a fast solution (lotions, creams, soaps from typical stores like target or walmart) to my problem before school starts.

David asks…

What is the best acne/pimple medication for a 12 year old?

My 12 year old daughter is very obviously going through puberty!! She has started to break out on her face, chest, & upper back. This is very embarassing for her, especially with swim-suit season coming up. Any ideas? I did not go through this stage when I was younger so I’m not sure what to do? She washes the problem areas twice a day with oatmeal soap, and has tried every over the counter medicine available at our local wal-mart. Has also used prescription benzoyle-peroxide, and most recently proactiv. Nothing helps!
We have already tried proactiv and it DID NOT WORK!! Was way too harsh for her skin. Her doctor does not want to put her on oral medication because she is so young and after a while her body will get used to it and it will not work anymore(which makes since).

Lizzie asks…

why should we clean bedsheets?

can you show me information on like bugs and bacteria that grows on up washed pillows and bedsheets? i’m trying to a write a paper persuaying people to wash them.

admin answers:

Bed bugs are small, oval, wingless insects that reach about 1/5” in length. They belong to the insect family Cimicidae, which includes three species that bite people. Bed bugs have flat bodies and are reddish-brown in color. They may sometimes be mistaken for ticks or small cockroaches. Bed bugs feed by sucking blood from humans or animals.

One of the most strongly allergenic materials found indoors is house dust, often heavily contaminated with the fecal pellets and cast skins of House Dust Mites. Estimates are that dust mites may be a factor in 50 to 80 percent of asthmatics, as well as in countless cases of eczema, hay fever and other allergic ailments. Common causes of allergy include house dust mites, cat dander, cockroach droppings and grass pollen. Symptoms are usually respiratory in nature (sneezing, itching, watery eyes, wheezing, etc.), usually NOT A RASH. However, there are reports of a red rash around the neck. Other allergic reactions may include headaches, fatigue and depression.

The wheeze-inducing proteins are digestive juices from the mite gut which are quite potent. An exposure to the mites in the first, crucial year of life can trigger a lifelong allergy. There is no cure, only prevention. One must control house dust mite levels.

Beds are a prime habitat (where 1/3 of life occurs). A typical used mattress may have anywhere from 100,000 to 10 million mites inside. (Ten percent of the weight of a two year old pillow can be composed of dead mites and their droppings.) Mites prefer warm, moist surroundings such as the inside of a mattress when someone is on it. A favorite food is dander (both human and animal skin flakes). Humans shed about 1/5 ounce of dander (dead skin) each week. About 80 percent of the material seen floating in a sunbeam is actually skin flakes. Also, bedroom carpeting and household upholstery support high mite populations.
